sad part about things like this is that I've started to go
oh? another school shoting?
<shrug>
goes on with my day and don't give it a second thought
Virginia Tech School Shooting
I still find the shootings themselves appalling, but I'm beginning to have less and less sympathy for Americans when their attitude is "Oh we need more guns to solve it!". Frankly, any American who truly believes that deserves to be shot so they can see first hand that it is absolutely not the solution.
apparently is a guy that was inlove with a girl, she didnt wana date him, it pissed him off, went in killed her and unleased his anger on the other students.
Its also being said that he went to the uni (which is apparently very very big) went into a building, started shooting and then vanished. The campus police spread out an email saying there was a shooting but that it was over and that ppl could just continue with their classes. But that wasnt true. He waiting and then went in the classrooms, entered one after another and started killing ppl, then even returned to a few other classrooms to kill who was still alive.

And the campus police are frikking morons.
'Someone been shot but dont worry - go continue with your lessons.'
What happened to 'someones been shot - take the day off to respect their injury..'
See this is why I refuse to watch the news...

I guess the problem (other than the fact it's easy for Americans to do this because of ease of access to guns) is that humans find something like this so horrific that no matter how fucked up someone is you don't expect this to happen so I'd say it's hard to blame the authorities. If you lock people up in mental institutes etc. to be on the safe side you risk locking up innocent people who really wouldn't harm anyone too so it's not an easy problem to solve.
Again I think it does come back to guns, whilst you can't stop people doing this very easily you can in the very worst case at least make it hard for them to get hold of the weapons such that they can't do it as a spur of the moment thing and have to put shed loads of planning into it in which case it at very worst case gives more time for the plot to be discovered.
