My conspiracy theory—the common cold...

Think about it... you get a terrible cold... runny nose, blocked sinuses, sore eyes and throat, etc. etc. Why is there no permanent cure for the common cold? Yes, I know, I've heard all the "clap-trap" about why it's not possible to invent a cure that will permanently get rid of the cold, but I'm not sure anymore. I think there is some conspiracy going on, that centres around an idea I have that it's all about money... i.e. companies making money.

Just think of all the companies that would go "bust" if there were a cure for the cold. All those companies that make things like cough sweets, hot lemon drinks, menthol and eucalyptus, nasal sprays, vapour rubs, etc. etc. Surely, it's in the interest of all those companies that a cure for the common cold is never found? But, what if there IS a cure, but it's being witheld from the public deliberately? What if there is someone (or some people) somewhere who is/are being paid huge amounts of money just to keep their cure secret? It makes you think, doesn't it?

Surely, with modern medicine, a permanent cure for the cold must be possible? Is there a conspiracy? What do you think?

And the point of this post is???

Colds are good! It gives people sick days from work, then giving them extra DAoC time. The hours from the sick guy have to be done by someone else, who then earns some extra cash to feed his kids. Companies make medication, that way employing people, who then be able to feed their kids as well, and so on and so on.
In case u didn't know yet, u can go to ur doc and ask for a vaccination against certain types of flues, AND once u had a certain type of cold, u can't get the same one again since ur body protects itself from it in the past, building an immune system. In other words, there are too many different types u can get, and as long as u didn't get em all yet, keep the tissues with u. Be it for a running nose... or something else.

And no this post doesn't really make me think, it's just silly and would've been better if u were able to tell us there was finally a cure for HIV or something.

<sighs>

the reason there is no cure for the common cold is because its NOT common.
Every cold you get is brand new and when you recover from it - you are instantly immune to it for life - however the cold germs are always changing therefore you can never be immune to catching a cold.

Its similar to the flu
There are many many different types of the flu but it doesnt change as rapidly as the cold does.

I know what you folks are saying... about every cold you get is a new one etc, but who's controlling the information about colds? Who told you that every cold you get is different? Surely that's something that the conspirators would have you believe? And if the flu virus also has so many different strains, then surely flu vaccinations are of no use, because how can you vaccinate against a particular strain when there are so many? Once you've been vaccinated, then surely that vaccine is worthless to you in the future?

I can understand the reasoning behind some people wanting to get colds so they can have more sick time off work (more time to play DAoC etc), but what about all those people who die from really bad colds and flu, like the elderly? If there was a permanent cure, then surely it would be morally and ethically wrong to withold it?

No, I'm still not convinced. I think there is a cure, but it's being deliberately witheld by governments of this world. Modern medicine is advanced enough to create a vaccine.
