If you are one of the unfortunate people that has an old vid card and has updated from the ati 6.2 catalyst to incorporate ati's brand new drivers. Then you are likely to be having problems. The drivers simply don't work. To remedy the problem, download the old 6.2 catalyst from the ATI website. Uninstall the old drivers followed by a reboot. Install the 6.2 catalyst, then reboot with an install of directx. Voila happy DAOC again. Rightnow the problem does not necessarily mean you will get the answer you want or the solution =)

What kind of error do you get if you use the latest drivers?

There were actually two errors that caused some awful computer problems. The first one would actually cause Dark Age of Camelot to completely crash and then slow down your computer. You may get something like 5 hours in game if crafting before the crash sequence would inititate or perhaps 10 minutes if you porting all over the place trying to rvr or pve. This would result in a render creation failure but for only Dark Age of Camelot and not older games like Jedi Academy for example. Also there would be a significant decrease in performance on your computer till you rebooted.

The second error was really nasty. Dark Age of Camelot would be rather slow and the fps would go down to zero, stop - after a certain period anywhere in the game, then crash but this time cause a physical memory dump and then the irreverant blue screen acknowledging this dump to say that your computer is about to reboot because of it. The reboot would of course would cause a system recovery and then a microsoft report saying they cannot find what is the problem.

I spent 5 days attempting to cure this problem, microsoft did come up with a solution that did not work. Their answer was to turn down the acceleration of your video card. Of course that is folly with the radeon 9000 as any lessening of the AGP down from x4 to x1 or the slowing of the refresh rate will only result in the inevitable problem mentioned in the first paragraph.

http://www.ati.com
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

btw if you wanna check your full computer you can do it at:

http://www.drivershq.com

You need an account on the page to use it fully, but its free if you just wanna check what components you need to update the drivers on. I actually paid for the site and I dont regret it at all (then again, ive got quite a few computers with different components so this reduce the speed when I install greatly)
