My PC is nearly 3 years old now its got 1 gig of mem since i upgraded it but i havent upgraded the gfx card yet..Its currently a G-Force 4 one. I dont get the mirrory water fx of New Frontiers or the Ability to change the appearance of Caestars Face as per catacombs facilitates. Is this because i need a new Graphics card. If so can anyone suggest one for me.

I Have heard that a G-Force FX 5200 might be able to accomodate this and they are around about £40.00.

I am using a P4 2g processor so that should be ok i reckon still.

Any ideas folks? :D

OMGZ!1111 tech forum imo!!!11111111

Seriously tho yeah, Catacombs models are dependant on graphics card, GeForce FX5200 probably isn't the best choice - if it's anything like all other budget gfx cards it'll be missing a lot of shader support and might not give you the flashy effects you want anyway. I guess either a Radeon 9800 pro or a GeForce 6800 but the 6800 is probably overkill for your system tbh. Going on a quick look through Scan the going price for 9800s seems to be like £110 - £120 though.

Well best is ofcourse the newest Cards like Radeon X800, Nvidia 6800..
But I would go for Radeon 9800, if you want a Card that aint all to expensive, "FX 5200" is crapp =P.

Been looking at gfx cards myself lately since my old GeForce fried. :(

Anyways, take a look at:

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1780514,00.asp

According to them "Among the midrange offerings, the GeForce 6600GT offers the best 3DMark performance per dollar, leading both the 128MB and 256MB versions of ATI's Radeon 9800 Pro." and

"Among the higher-end GPUs, ATI's Radeon X800 Pro (average street price $384) delivers the most performance per dollar, followed by Nvidia's GeForce 6800GT (average street price $373)."

i was in the same boat, had a 3 yo comp with a nvidia 440mx 64mb card, i recently got a new comp with a nvidia 6800 GTO 256mb, man i couldnt believe the difference or what i was missing out on graphically over the last 2 years it was like discovering a new game, combined with me 19"TFT flat panel its awesome, so now i can get all the benefits/ui's/trees/shadows/reflections etc etc go for it

An AGP-type FX5200 is more like 25 pounds in, for example, dabs (in the uk).

I bought one of those about a year ago, and it was a cheap card then, so I would expect that you should go for something a bit better (I put the card on top of a 866Mhz pentium, and it was hellish unstable until the cooling fan burned out after that it has run ok *shrug* I think the fan musta been to make it look fast :) ).

i have geforce fx 5200 m8 and its not a bad card at all espeacialy if you are on a budget it handles the new catas graphics very well indeed and the water looks very nice. of course there are better cards if you can aford £150 plus but the gforce fx 5200 is fine. i bought a fx 5200 256 mb ddr 6 months ago from pc world for £99 but there are cheaper ones with less mb :ba:
