How much do you charge, Spellcrafters?
The % scheme for pricing don't really work for sc'ing because the time it takes to sc a full set of armour it out of proportion to the cost of the jewels.
tbh the economy has changed out of all recognition from the old days when peeps used to price like this, most peeps I know will only craft for friends/guildies (if at all) nowadays as the price u get for it simply don't justify the effort.

I think this is a bit silly, Gandelf cant charge what he feels like? If he feels he got the time and patience to help out other hibbies with some cheap SCing, who is able to tell him not to do so? the SC price police ?
Would be the same as telling someone not to sell scrolls/artis/other items cheap coz that would ruin the market for some fat farmer. Dosnt makes any sence to me.
Anyway if someone thinks Gandelf is taking all the costumers, then lower your prices, if you dont feel that is worth the trouble then dont, but telling him to stop being nice is just silly.
Cheers from me, Gandelf. I think its amazing you are always trying to help out :satyn1:
Sorry about the typos, hope it makes sence.

:OohhoO: True, what Malik said. Charge whatever you want you feel it is worth it.
Just keep in mind that the effort in spellcrafting is not the mindless press of a button but
a) knowledge as a spellcrafter and template maker
b) check of a template and improvements if possible
c) up to 32 gems making multiple times (time)
I've stopped once an order to get back to the customer and proposed a better solution. Took 3 days longer to make the order but customer was happy to get more value for money.
It's these hidden costs that you as spellcrafter have to incorporate into the pricing.
And Gandelf, anyone complaining about loosing business - is probably someone stealing candy from children :dairylea:

There's a few things to consider:
* Costprice of SC gems arent that high, say 400-500G for a full set (on avg)
* As SC'er you often spending quite abit of time crafting the gems, say 1-2 hours on avg. for a typical full set.
Now, consider the fact a typical template has Guard of Valour (talking 20-30 plat easy including arti+scrolls), Scalars (20 plat), Immolated-Ring, Shades of Mist, all easily talking 20+ plat if you look at the value of it on the CM's.
To be fair here, the GoV dont work without the SC, and the SC wont work without the GoV (replace GoV with any other expensive item in the SC). Im happy to pay 2-3 plat for my SC if:
* It's done without errors
* It's done in the time we agree on (eg. if crafter says 'I do it Wednesday' - then its done Wednesday and not Friday)
500-600G / item aint too excessive considering the 'rest'. Also the SC'er has spend ALOT of time to get up to LGM status + spends time making your set.
If you make an uber farm character (= the time to get to LGM SC'er) how much money could you farm in the time it takes to make your order? 2 plat? 4 plat? Well thats a fair price then for your order.
My 2 cents

What others said really. The market has been inflated by camping and charging. Its quite funny in a way, but it works both ways. Some people spend spare time camping artifacts with farming toons and reaping cash for selling them, others have to buy those artis/scrolls by raising money their way. There are others that go ML10 raids and sell stuff to keep in with market forces or finance other projects.
When i have some downtime in life, I'll craft some MP Scale, Lgw Weapons and stuff and sell them for what I can get. That means i can daoc without having to concentrate too much, ie Fins groups, artis, raids, ie things you have to commit too.
I dont take any orders anymore, odd guildee, who benefits from cheap stuff, or free mps (quinlan!!!!!! im broke!) the stuff that goes on cms, gets sold and allows me in time and accumulation to buy things that I might need.
So whereas say pre toa a Full MP Reinf suit might be made for a loss, as money wasnt that important, now 1 armour part can cost as much as what a suit used to.
Inexorably, a pair of leggings at 10p is cheap considering someone sells a scroll at 80p and thats only 25% of what you need.
So charge what you wish and what suits your personal situation. also never be held to ransom by anyone ordering stuff. If they demand a price tell them to shove it, they do not control your crafting time. Hence why I dont craft orders anymore, people think you'll do a pair of leggings and spend 150 attempts on it and want them for 1p cos they know you. Yet they'll have ML10 items or GOV on their CMs at 30p+ etc.

Just to reinforce what other people have said.
I charge 250-500g per item, depends on my mood rather than material cost - I can afford to be fickle
For guildies its free, though I only do that if they have had a good attempt at finding a 'jobing' SC'r to do the stuff and have sourced all the jewels they can.
And fine if you want to do em cheap, i'll probably not even bother using my SC'r and get you to do all my stuff Gand as I dont get enough time to spend on the game as it is, so the last thing I want to do is craft.
In truth most people are pretty lazy, they could get a 650 SC'r without a lot of effort, allowing them to do 80% ish of the jewels that you find on the average template.

Yup. I was talking about who ever told Gandelf he was ruining the market. And TBH that was the polite way of saying it.

I was charged 1p for my recent SC of 3 MP pieces, thought it was cheap and gave 500g tip. Personaly I think SC is somehow cheap when looking at overall template building, however I have no idea how much time SCer actualy spends to make 98 and 99 qua gems for 37.5 overcharges...
As for ruining the market... I had to do 3 major SC jobs in last 3 months, never I got a man to do it by usin /as or /who spellcrafter - everytime I had to ask my friends to ask their guildies, etc, etc, so I think people will easily pay 500g or 1p more, if you are available when they need you, so I don't think Gandelf is harming the market in any way.

I usually charge 400-500 gold per piece if 5.5 OC - Non guildies
And for guildies I usually do for material cost, and then they usually tip me with like 500g-1p for the job.
Thidsets and whatnot is a huge timesink, I charge as much for them as I do with normal 5.5 OC items. Since people who wants to get a full SCsuit for their Thidchars usually is loaded anyways.
But Gandelf, charge whatever price you consider it's worth. Fixed prices makes it much easier for both seller and buyer.
