new development, China and WoW
I don't agree that it's good that they're preventing computer addiction. I'd personally be alot more worried about curbing alcohol addiction for example (hell, where's the 3 hour limit on drinking? - how many thousands or even millions people has alcohol killed compared to gaming) than gaming addictions. I'm hoping it wont really effect overall game design as that'd seriously suck, sometimes it's actually really relaxing to get absorbed in a game for hours on end for starters. The issue with ToA style 5hr grinds is not that the grinds themselves are bad but that they're just outright uninteresting, at least after the first run through.
Aye many more serious, damaging & waaay more costly (financially + socially) addictions than computer-game addiction which should be addressed first imo:-
Hard drugs
Alcohol
Nicotine
Sugar
not to mention CO2
(altho I've been addicted to all of them except hard drugs for 30+ years

I hope this stays in chinese.
I am 1 of those who play (most likely) more than 3 hours a day and I still know I have to sleep/eat/drink/piss/poo/work/get out every once in a while.
Why should I (or anyone) suffer because some idiots CAN'T STOP THEMSELVES?
Oh well.
Well the easy solution to that is to remove welfare, if you are concerned about people taking advantage of itCompton wrote:
This doesn't mean I don't agree with what you guys already told about freedom, but face it, computer addicted people on a wealth fare *can be*(is?) a problem. And waiting till the problem is too big is quite near sighted. This on a sidenote

Since China is a communism, you pretty much belong to the government (erm "the people"), so this makes sense. However, Capitalism is based on the fact that if you let people choose their own "reward" for working hard (i.e. let them spend their money any way they want), then they put more effort into working and innovating.I don't agree at all with this Chinese measurements as they take away the basic fr2eedom, but I don't agree with totally dumping the proposition because the idea behind it is quite strong. And we don't know yet what will happen with the development of addicted teens, so should be careful.
All in all, if the Chinese take this through: the result could be
1) their society won't be hindered by extra addicts, nor will there be efficiency loss due to non-addicts putting more than 3h per day in something non-productive (this is how the Chinese government thinks, and leads to the most efficient (inhuman?) country there is)
There is no gaurentee of that. What could also happen is that the monthly fees drop a little due to the increased competition. If all your competitors are saving money on bandwidth, then they are more likely to reduce prices (or more to the point, not increase them with inflation). The market always reacts to changes. It might be good for them short-term, but in the long run it will be a wash.2) game developers could be keeping this 3h limit in mind for developing, wich could lead to "better?" game experience in the unlimited western society
3) as Xest said, everywhere the 3h limit and companies making more money due to more accounts being sold

Well you know there is wow chinese/diablo2/whatever our sharpeyed friends want (ying yang ^_^) so hopefully this will stay there. Or we'll have to live with the resurrection of a plague.Banana wrote:if the games are adapting it surely it will be all of them?
then again china do alot of stuff like this so nm
Oh wait. THE Plague.
The problem is PARENTS. Not "addicted teens" . Maybe parents who can't be arsed to superwise their children shouldn't try to make up bullshit about the computer "Ruining their children" (my ass). In the end, it is all down to the lack of discipline, if a child doesn't know what is good for him/her he/she will look at what is most appealing. Aka drugs. Cigarette. Alcohol. Computers.
Why not ban everything that isn't politically correct? Brainwashing dimwits.
Then we can sit at the table all day and play grabass while enjoying life to its fullest. Or not.
Actually, its things that most voters don't do or don't understand that are easy to ban. Most of the deaths were of people in the 20-30 bracket, so it is adults who are dying. The point is that if an MP started talking about banning an activity that you had never even heard of, you are unlikely to be upset.Banana wrote:nah
adults still do the alcohol thing so will never be a limit on that.
Have you noticed peeps only see the need to limit stuff the kids/teenagers do?
even if adults play them as well
