Which is why we consider most countries of the EU good countries and North Korea a bad one.

I think most people agree that elections are a good thing.

I think people disagree with you because everything you say is wrong :p

Ankh, not everyone is an opinionated person. Some people are more mellow. Those people can be just as interested in prydwen as the loud-mouths like me.

Also, some people have ways of phrasing things that keeps people happy even when a difficult subject is at hand. They avoid being confrontational or offensive, of making direct criticisms or being dismissive of the value of someone else's perspective. Those people make much better mods than someone who, like me, can start an argument while agreeing with someone ;)

But elections are completely different - using the UK as an example, there's 60 million people here, realistically let's just say (and that's highly likely an overestimate) 100,000 people know Mr Blair personally, that means that like, less than 2% of the vote is going to be swayed by personal opinion about him - assuming all those people even like him.

Compare that to a forum where realistically a couple of hundred people at most will care about the vote and just about all of which will have a personal opinion about the people they're voting and you see probably at a guess, 95% of people having their vote swayed by personal opinion.

All that's before you even factor in how democratic parties in politics are about far more serious and very different issues for example, even if the entire population was friends with the Monster Raving Lunie Party in the UK they wouldn't vote them in because despite them being friends they'd mostly have the sense to know it would destroy the country, compare that to a bunch of friends voting in someone on a forum and it's not going to cause mass economic depression and world war 3 if they get into power (as a mod) - although I do wish I did have that kind of power <grins evily>

Comparing forum mods to politicians is pretty daft, I know deep down you're not silly enough to beleive your analogy holds any realistic relevance :p

Might be so, but I still think that a moderator SHOULD have opinions..and be allowed to express his opinions - BUT it shouldnt affect his moderating :)

Imo a mod needs to think alot before posting, not about what u say, but how u say it. Cause if u write something sarcastic and mean, that will allow the rest to do the same. There for ur restricted as a mod, u can't say what u might want to.
And tbh (not talking about mods only here) all of us should do the same, think about that if we all sat in the same room and u would say what u type in here, u'd get ur arse kicked by someone. ;)

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistance. Talent will not: nothing more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistance and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.......

Whatever your opinion of him (and yes mine is that he's an overgrown schoolboy who needs to be shot too) he was still voted in because he was perceived to have good policies. Many felt he was just the lesser of two evils, and many will also agree that a 2 person election isn't really much of a democracy anyway.

Again, politics is just far too vast and different a subject to compare to choosing forum mods.
